The Borderline Big Band is a 9-piece band that caters for any occasion. We have a wide repertoire and hope you will consider us for your event. Below you can read about the members of the band.

The current lineup consists of:

Dan Border (Band Leader)   -   Piano/Trumpet
Dan is currently studying medicine at the University of Warwick and plays jazz alongside his studies. He also plays in the smaller version of the band, Borderline Jazz, which is available as a 4/5 piece jazz combo, and was the 2008 winner of the small group category of the East Midlands Youth Jazz Awards.

Rachel Bray   -   Clarinet/Alto Saxophone
Rachel has been playing with the band for some time now and has played with many of the band members previously. She also plays for the Cavaliers big band in Newark, where she is also a teacher.

Fran Poxon  -   Alto Saxophone
Fran was a member of the Toot Hill Dance Band and recently joined the line-up. She plays alto saxophone with the band.

James (Gary) Barlow   -   Tenor Saxophone/Vocals
James (or as we like to affectionately call him, Gary) Barlow, attends school at Toot Hill in Bingham, and has been playing with the band for several years. He also sings with the bigger band, as well as the smaller combo, Borderline Jazz.

Hannah Bond   -   Trombone 1
Hannah has been playing with the band since 2007 and, like Rachel, has played with many of the band members previously. She also currently plays with the Cavaliers big band in Newark.

Colin Smith   -   Trombone 2/Trumpet
Colin has played with the band since 2007 and plays both trombone and trumpet. He has played with almost all of the band and in fact has led and/or taught most of them during his time as a music teacher at Toot Hill running the Toot Hill Dance Band. He also plays with '12 to the Bar'.

Pete Thorpe   -   Guitar
Pete has played with the band since 2005 when a guitar was added to the line-up. He also plays with Borderline Jazz. He studied biotechnology at the University of Nottingham before studying for a year at music school in London. After working in nuclear magnetic resonance spectrometry for a year, Pete is now undertaking a science PhD.

Ben Coult   -   Double Bass/Bass Guitar
Ben has played with the band from the very beginning and continues to be its bass player. He completed a 4 year masters degree in Physics at Sheffield University and is now working in nuclear energy. He also plays in Borderline Jazz.

Simon Perkins   -   Drums/Percussion
Simon is the main drummer used regularly for the band and has played with us for a number of years. He also plays for the smaller combo, Borderline Jazz.

James Hackett   -   Drums/Percussion
James is another drummer who has played regularly with us in the past and continues to dep for Simon where necessary. He has also played with the smaller combo, and was also a member of the Toot Hill Dance Band. James is currently studying at drum school in London.
